Making art that connects others, while bringing a sense of nostalgia.
Not only do the colour choices play a huge part in creating a vivid sense of atmosphere, its also the memory and sense of time connected with a place. This was a commission I painted, earlier in the summer for a friend of mine. The objective was to capture a moment of time spent between a father and son, reminiscent on the places that were spent together roaming around the streets Berlin. Having spent some months living in Berlin myself, I wanted to capture the thriving local market scenes, a huge communal event that would take place around many districts weekly, bringing people together to honor their creativity and passions. My goal was to combine the essence of Mauer Park on a Sunday, while capturing the street scenes from the colourful balconies around areas like Kruezberg. I absolutely love painting places, especially when I find myself going back in time and expressing a vibe through artwork. This lockdown has certainly made me appreciate memories spent surrounded by street performers, street food and free thinkers, while wandering around flea markets looking for treasures. I normally don't plan what i’m going to paint and let myself get straight into it from the images and aesthetic that comes to mind.
A progress video of the commission from back in the summer last year. Enjoyed spending lockdown painting out in the garden, listening to the buzzing bees 🐝
